Hiring from us

This page sets out the commercial grammar of hire, in plain language, without a single figure. The figures are in your quote, because they depend on the model, the duration, the distance and on what you want included.

On what unit is a hire charged?

By the day, by the week, by the month or by the season, depending on the case. The useful rule is that the longer the period, the lower the price per day, and that transport is charged once out and once back, whatever the duration.

Is there a minimum duration?

Yes, and it depends on the model and on the period. It is on your quote before you sign, never after. A minimum duration is not a penalty: it covers transport, commissioning and collection, which happen whether the hire lasts a week or six months.

What is included?

The equipment at your disposal, its delivery, its installation, its commissioning, support during the hire and its removal. What is included is written line by line in the quote: we do not do a package whose contents you discover on arrival.

What is charged as an extra?

Cabling and accessories that are not in the hire catalogue, exceptional lifting equipment, attendance requested outside the agreed hours, journeys made necessary by a site that was not ready, and recharging when we are the ones supplying it.

How is a hire extended?

In writing, before the end date. An extension asked for in time is generally handled without changing equipment. An extension asked for after the end date is treated as a late return, which is neither the same thing nor the same price.

How does the return work?

We come and collect the equipment on the agreed date, with a joint condition report compared against the outgoing one. The hire runs until the equipment is actually collected, not until you call: that is the point that surprises people most often, so we write it here.

Deposit, insurance, excess: who covers what?

Hired equipment remains our property and must be insured for the whole duration of the hire, against theft, fire and damage. A certificate will be asked of you before delivery. The excess and the amount of the deposit are on the quote.

And in the event of damage, theft or cancellation?

Damage or theft is reported immediately, with a police report in the case of theft. A cancellation before delivery is treated differently depending on whether it comes before or after the transport leaves: it is the date the lorry sets off that draws the line, not the start date of the hire.

This text explains how we work. It does not replace the general conditions of hire, which are attached to every quote and which are what count.

The next step is a quote

A hire quote fits on one page and says everything: model, duration, charging unit, transport, what is included, what is not, deposit and excess.
